We visited Tropea in the first half of April.
We visited Tropea in the first half of April. The weather was pleasant and the city wasn´t crowded. Many of the restaurants and bars were still closed before the real season start but there were still plenty of options. Parking wasn´t very easy (and I expect to get some fines in the upcoming weeks).

I was there out of season.
I was there out of season. Many restaurants in Tropea were shut but enough. More opened at the weekend.
Public transport seems limited to the trains. Tropes is on a branch line and at best the trains are every 2 hours. There are lots of beaches to explore.
Access to the hills. Would require some research.

Tropea was an awesome little town!!
Tropea was an awesome little town!! Very quaint, plenty of restaurants, gellato stores and little shops! It has the perfect mix of stores, food, and outdoor activities. I WISH I had planned a longer stay, would go back here in a heartbeat!

The historic town is mostly pedestrianised or traffic...
The historic town is mostly pedestrianised or traffic restricted, and although heavily populated by tourists it is big enough not to be overwhelmed (at least that was the case in September). There is a lot of good historic architecture from a variety of periods, and many good restaurants. The beaches are not large, but are within walking distance of the town centre, but you need to be prepared for climbing lots of steps to get to them from the town.

It's a small town with a lot of ancient history.
It's a small town with a lot of ancient history. I highly recommend taking the time to read up on the history of Tropea - how it was founded, how old it is and many other awesome historical facts about it.
Tropea is not just a beach or resort vacation - I am always excited about the crooked streets, the food, the scenic views and the amazing vibe of the place and the people.
Makes me want to come here again and again!
One last tip - sunscreen, hiking shoes and a basic Italian vocabulary will make your visit perfect )
We have spent the past month travelling around the South of Italy by train and a month in Scandinavia before that. This is one of the best apartments we stayed in. Amanda is a caring and thoughtful host who provided everything we needed. The apartment is spotless, spacious, central, and close to the station, beach, cafes, and restaurants. There is one supermarket open long hours. The many restaurants with fantastic fresh produce made self-catering not necessary for dinner. We loved the area and would like to return.
If you want to stay in a place with real Calabrian hospitality then this is where to book your stay. The host Giovanni and his family are the nicest people and always happy to help you. The rooms are newly renovated, cozy, and clean, and have aircondition, a nice big bathroom, and a small balcony. But the best part of the stay is the breakfast, mostly homemade with fresh vegetables from the garden and artisanal cured meats. We stayed in four different places on our travel in Italy and this was by far the best.
The check in process after hours was very well communicated to us and we were able to access the hotel and room with no problem. The room was very modern and nicely decorated. The bathroom was big and had a rain shower and separate hand shower. Breakfast was excellent and was well managed by the very nice lady who was there every morning. We appreciated how close the hotel was to the downtown and beach areas. We may come again next year and stay for 3-4 weeks since the hotel and area are so nice.
This apartment was excellent - high quality furnishings, thoughtful design and very attractive. It was also spacious with a large and well furnished terrace which was perfect for us and our large dog. The location is terrific, just outside the centro storico with a secured paid parking garage less than 100 metres away. We have been doing a road trip in Southern Italy with our car and dog staying in similarly priced accommodation and S’O Suites was the undoubted winner in quality of accommodation.
A lovely hotel, beautifully presented with delightful, welcoming staff. I arrived early just to leave a bag but my room was ready - and was also an upgrade from my booking. An exceptionally large, light, room with a very comfortable bed. Excellent bathroom with extra large shower. Breakfast is good - many sweet options as in Italy. Also fruit and yoghurt, with coffee made for you. Location is quiet and 2 minutes walk from the Centro Storico. Would definitely return here.
This was one of my favorite places to stay in Italy. The location is perfect, close to the beach and all the restaurants. It is walking distance to the train station. Claudia, the host is so helpful and accommodating. Breakfasts are simple yet delicious and as a celiac, I was made a special cake daily and offered extra treats/fruit etc. The rooms are large, clean and well equipped, they even provide an umbrella and beach towels! We really loved this accomodation.
Its perfect ! A boutique hotel really. Claudia greeted us warmly and offered plenty of information to assist with our stay. The hotel building is in the middle of town making everything so easy to get to. The rooms are pristine and beautifully decorated. Best room l have stayed in during our time in Italy … especially for the price. The breakfast on the roof was so sweet and the staff so helpful. I just had a great stay so thank you.
Free parking at the door, easy flat walk to beach, clean and very modern (new), excellent breakfast (best we've had on our travels), nice friendly staff, we tried to stay another night, but they were full. Good value for money. This B & B is on beach level, you have to walk up to the Historical Centre and all the good restaurants. It's beautiful up there, no parking and very expensive in comparison.
This was the best accommodation we stayed in during our time in Italy. The lady who works there was on her day off, regardless we had an attentive person who helped us check-in and provided useful recommendations.
Incredibly clean and spacious room. We had a good sized TV with Netflix on it. Parking spot was free and very close to the place. Breakfast was very good too with a range of food.
The rooms were totally renovated and super clean. The owner makes breakfast which you order the day before and eat in your room. The breakfast is superb! She even makes the cakes and pies. The place has free parking and is within walking distance of everything in Tropea. The city is beautiful.
Our host Mariano was exceptional, our room was clean, the a/c worked well, the bed was super comfortable and a fully cooked breakfast was a delightful surprise. The best breakfast we have had in Italy since arriving three weeks ago. Highly recommend. Thank you Mariano.
Amazing hotel, great view from the balcony, super tasty breakfast. The best hosts we have ever met, they are really caring about their customers. Best value for money. Strongly recommend to visit this city and stay at this hotel. We definitely want to come back.
Everything! The view from the hotel was absolutely beautiful, room was very clean and comfy (bed is amazing), all the staff were so aware about our needs or suggestions to do in Tropea, breakfast was delicious and the barman was a kind person and super nice!
We had a very friendly and smooth welcome. The location of the property is very close to the old city center. The bed and pillows were one of the best we've had during our entire 15 day roadtrip through southern Italy.
Amazing host Rossella was great with us from start to finish. She hosted us really well and we will surely return and recommend. Breakfast was brought to us in our private terrace... amazing view of Tropea old town.
Perfect location for exploring Tropea and then getting away from the crowds for an afternoon on the beach. Very friendly, helpful staff, great location for swimming and walking a gorgeous stretch of beach.
The host, staff and location were all outstanding. This is the absolute best place to stay in Tropea. Unreservedly highly recommend, Alessandro is a true class act.
The location was okay, with walking distance to the city center and beach.
The breakfast was the best we’ve had during our trip through Italy. Welcoming staff.
